Financial Manager for Roots Dairy
Konsulenthuset ballisager A/S
Do numbers, structure and a close connection to the business appeal to you? And are you motivated by truly getting to know the operation behind the numbers while you build the financial structure as the business grows.
This is a hands-on role where finance is closely connected to the day-to-day business – and where your work will have a visible impact. Have we just described your next job? Then please read on..
At Roots Dairy, we believe dairy farming can be done differently. Our approach is called Farming with Nature, combining modern farming, technology and a focus on the land, animals and the environment. Roots Dairy is a young and growing business backed by the international investment fund Regenerate. With ambitions to grow towards 5,000+ cows, the next step is to build a finance function that can support the business as it develops. That is where the new Financial Manager comes in.
Build our financial foundation
As Financial Manager, your main responsibility will be to create structure and transparency around the company's finances. The role is hands-on and covers everything from daily cash management and invoices to reporting, budgets, and financial follow-up.
Working closely with the General Manager and farm managers, the position will also connect the financial results with what is happening on the farms.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing daily cash flow, 12-month cash flow forecasts, budgets, invoices and payments across the business
- Preparing weekly and monthly farm reporting, including cost per liter of milk and income over feed cost, and connecting financial results with production
- Handling financial reporting to the fund manager and investors in London, as well as communication with the bank and financial data for tax and regulatory requirements
- Developing the financial setup, including an Excel-based structure connected to the agricultural accounting system and opportunities to use AI and automation to simplify processes
A strong understanding of Excel is essential, along with a practical understanding of financial management, cash flow and cost control. Experience from agriculture or with an agricultural accounting system is an advantage, but not a requirement.
The role will suit you if you enjoy working independently and keeping track of several tasks and deadlines, while still being comfortable working closely with management and colleagues across the business. A proactive approach matters, as does the ability to spot opportunities for improvement and turn them into practical solutions.
Curiosity about technology and AI is a plus, particularly when it can be used to simplify financial processes. Good interpersonal skills are important too, as the role involves building relationships across the office and the farms.
Danish is required, as well as good English skills, ideally at C1 level. A valid driving licence is also a necessity, as the role involves occasional travel to the farms in Denmark.
A role with room to grow
This is the first finance position in the organisation, so there is plenty of scope to shape the way the function works. As Roots Dairy grows, so will the need for a larger finance team. For the right person, the role could develop into a Financial Controller position with responsibility for a small team.
The position is based in a coworking environment in Odense with shared facilities and a canteen. The working day comes with a high degree of flexibility, including the option to work from home when it makes sense. At the same time, being present matters – both for building relationships with colleagues and for spending time on the farms and understanding the operation behind the numbers.
