Quant Researcher

Norlys Energy Trading A/S

Would you like to manage renewable energy portfolios across European power markets – and use your quantitative skills to make better commercial decisions?

Join our Physical Asset Management team and take responsibility for your own areas of the portfolio. You will work hands-on with market analysis, quantitative models, pricing and PnL while building the market knowledge needed to spot where we can do things better.

The team

You will join Physical Asset Management at Norlys Energy Trading in Aalborg. We manage renewable energy portfolios across European power markets, combining portfolio management with market analysis and quantitative methods. The work involves close interaction with colleagues across trading, origination and asset management.

The role

As a Quant Researcher, you will operate and develop parts of our renewable portfolio across Europe. Over time, you will become the go-to person for your areas of responsibility: understanding what moves the market, how it affects the portfolio and where there is room to improve performance.

The role has a strong quantitative element. You will build models to understand portfolio effects, develop PnL dashboards and work on pricing methodologies and trading automation. You will also investigate new markets and products and help turn promising ideas into new business.

Key responsibilities

The role combines running the portfolio today with improving how we work tomorrow. You will work independently on some areas and together with colleagues and stakeholders in others.

  • Maintain and operate our renewable portfolios across the EU.
  • Run your own areas of responsibility with a focus on profitable performance.
  • Follow your markets closely and build specialist knowledge within your areas.
  • Build and maintain quantitative models to analyse and optimise portfolio effects.
  • Develop pricing methodologies and identify ways to improve portfolio performance.
  • Build and maintain dashboards that show PnL for your portfolios.
  • Help automate trading tools and processes.
  • Investigate new markets and products that could create new business opportunities.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders and take part in relevant conferences and excursions.

The people who thrive in this kind of role are the ones who stay curious when the answer isn’t obvious. You’ll have room to dig into problems, form your own view and act on what you learn. And when the market changes, you need to be comfortable changing your mind with it.

What we are looking for

You are comfortable working with numbers, code and complex market information, but analysis is not an end in itself for you. You want to use it to make decisions, improve the way we work and move things forward when the market changes.

We expect you to have:

  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field such as physics, economics, data science or mathematics.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R or a similar language.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical modelling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • A can-do attitude and a sense of urgency when something needs to move.
  • An understanding of why agility and speed-to-market matter in a changing market.
  • The ability to work well with different stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience within power trading or finance is an advantage, but not a requirement.

What we offer

The role gives you room to build specialist knowledge while working hands-on with renewable portfolios across European power markets.

  • Your own areas of responsibility within renewable portfolio management.
  • The chance to build specialist knowledge of European power markets.
  • A role that combines quantitative work with commercial decision-making.
  • Exposure to new markets, products and business opportunities.
  • Close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
  • Participation in relevant conferences and excursions.

Interested?

If the combination of power markets, quantitative analysis and portfolio responsibility sounds like a good match for you, we would like to hear from you.
