Software Developer

Would you like to build software at the core of algorithmic energy trading? In Algo Core, you will work on a system supporting tens of thousands of trades every day across multiple continents.

We are looking for a developer with experience building production software who wants to take responsibility, contribute to technical decisions, and learn how energy trading works in practice. You will work directly with traders and quantitative analysts, developing the software they rely on.

The team

You will join Algo Core, a team of six developers responsible for developing and maintaining the core algorithmic trading system at Norlys Energy Trading.

We share responsibility for the system’s development and reliable operation. You will take responsibility for tasks matching your experience level, with opportunities to drive work from understanding the requirements through proposing a design and implementing the solution. Designs and technical decisions are discussed with teammates, so you will have colleagues to challenge your ideas and help develop them.

The role

You will maintain and improve our existing system while developing new functionality in C#/.NET. Your work could include:

• Building an integration into a new trading venue.
• Developing a new trading algorithm that improves a trader’s ability to manage a position
• Adding a feature to our trader-facing UI or APIs.
• Investigating and fixing an issue in the core algo engine.

Part of the job is understanding what traders and quantitative analysts need and turning that into software that improves their workflows. You will also help to ensure our software and algorithms meet the technical requirements, venue rules and internal governance requirements.

The system runs around the clock, and the team shares a compensated 24/7 on-call rotation, usually one week at a time. You will join the rotation once you are ready to take on that responsibility.

In this role, you will get close to both the technology and the trading behind it. You will work directly with the traders and quants using the system, see where your work makes a difference, and build a strong understanding of algorithmic trading along the way.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a developer with professional experience building and maintaining production software and wants to keep learning. You do not need to come in knowing the energy trading domain, but you should be interested in understanding the business behind the system you are developing.

Must-have qualifications

• A master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science or a related field.
• Practical experience with C#/.NET, or substantial experience in a language such as Java and the ability to transition to C#/.NET.
• The ability to investigate problems, discuss technical approaches, and take responsibility for delivering solutions.
• An eagerness to learn, both technically and about the domain.

Nice-to-have qualifications

Experience with real-time systems, Microsoft Azure or databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Timescale is an advantage.

Familiarity with Python, data pipelines, machine learning, statistics, or the energy sector can also provide useful background for understanding how our systems are used. These are not prerequisites for the role.
