Apple

Summary
At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. The Creativity Apps team needs your help shaping the next generation of creative editing tools by working on state-of-the-art technologies to surprise and delight creative pros and enthusiasts alike. You’ll be working with the world-class teams behind Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, iMovie, and GarageBand to create next-generation tools for creators!

Description
We're looking for a Performance Tooling Engineer to own the tooling and automated tests that keep our products fast, efficient, and correct. Your mission is to catch regressions before they ship, across latency, memory, power/thermals and functionality, by building the test harnesses, benchmarks, and CI infrastructure that make regressions visible, reproducible, and actionable.

The systems you build will run continuously across our device fleet and become the safety net our engineering team relies on. If you enjoy turning "it feels slower" into a hard number on a dashboard with a bisected culprit commit, this is for you.

Responsibilities
  • Design, write, and maintain automated tests that detect performance regressions (latency, memory footprint, power consumption, etc.) and functional regressions.
  • Build and operate CI pipelines and tooling that run these tests reliably across a fleet of hardware devices.
  • Create dashboards, alerting, and triage tooling that surface regressions early and help engineers root-cause them quickly, e.g. automated bisection, historical trend tracking.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams & leadership to define meaningful performance goals and acceptance criteria.
  • Continuously improve test coverage, execution speed, flakiness, and the developer experience of running and interpreting tests.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Very strong problem-solving and coding skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI systems.
  • Solid understanding of performance measurement fundamentals: how to benchmark reliably, control for noise, and reason about latency, memory, and power/thermal metrics.
  • Experience writing automated tests and the tooling/frameworks around them.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing for Apple platforms (iOS/macOS), with working knowledge of Swift.
  • Familiarity with the Apple development toolchain: Xcode, Instruments, and related profiling and testing.
  • Experience with GPU programming and image processing systems (Metal, OpenCL, CUDA or similar).
  • Experience with regression testing across many hardware devices, e.g., device labs, device farms, or fleet-based test automation.

At Apple, we believe accessibility is a fundamental human right. You’ll find that idea reflected in everything here — in our culture, our benefits and our digital tools. By welcoming as many perspectives as possible, we help you build a career where you feel like you belong.
