Data Scientist

Flatpay

About The Role

You will join a growing AI team of 13 talented colleagues with a shared mission: transforming data and AI into measurable business value for Flatpay and our merchants.

As a Data Scientist, you will design, build, and productionize GenAI-powered products and pipelines that support business-critical processes across the organization.

A key area of focus will be improving and automating our Know Your Customer (KYC) flows. You will develop multimodal AI solutions that can process and validate documents and images, extract structured information, populate required fields, and submit cases directly to our acquiring partners. These workflows are critical to the onboarding of new merchants and require a strong focus on accuracy, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.

Beyond KYC, you will work broadly across GenAI use cases involving LLMs, document processing, data enrichment, workflow automation, analytics, and internal or customer-facing applications.

You will own the implementation of solutions together with colleagues from the AI team and the wider business. This includes understanding the underlying business problem, shaping the solution, building it, deploying it to production, and continuously improving it based on real-world performance.

The role is ideal for someone who combines strong GenAI and software engineering skills with the ability to communicate effectively with business stakeholders. You should enjoy turning ambiguous operational challenges into practical AI products that create measurable value.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade GenAI applications and pipelines using Python, MLflow, Databricks, and foundational models from Google, Claude and OpenAI.
  • Develop multimodal KYC solutions that process documents and images, extract and validate information, populate application fields, and integrate with acquiring partners.
  • Build broader GenAI solutions for document processing, data enrichment, workflow automation, analytics, and internal or customer-facing products.
  • Work directly with business stakeholders to understand processes, identify opportunities, define requirements, and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Build and maintain data and AI workflows in Databricks, including pipelines, jobs, workflows, model-serving endpoints, and custom applications.
  • Integrate AI solutions with internal systems, APIs, external platforms, and third-party service providers.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers and other technical teams to build solutions on reliable, scalable, and well-governed data foundations.
  • Evaluate models and architectures based on accuracy, latency, cost, security, and operational requirements.

Who you are

  • You have 2–4 years of industry experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI Engineering, or a similar technical role.
  • You have hands-on experience building GenAI applications or pipelines and understand what is required to move a solution from prototype to production.
  • You have strong software engineering skills and are comfortable writing clean, maintainable, and tested Python code.
  • You have experience using LLMs from leading providers as well as open-source models, and you understand how to select the right model for a given use case.
  • You have experience with modern LLM architectures and techniques such as structured outputs, tool calling, agents, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation.
  • You are comfortable working with document, image, or other unstructured data and using AI to extract, validate, and structure information.
  • You understand the importance of monitoring, automated testing, guardrails, security, and reliability in production AI systems.
  • You are comfortable working in Databricks or a similar cloud-based data and AI platform, including pipelines, workflows, model serving, and production deployments.
  • You have solid Python, PySpark, Pandas, and SQL skills and are comfortable working with large, structured datasets.
  • You communicate well with non-technical stakeholders and can understand the business processes behind the solutions you build.
  • You care about building solutions that are reliable, explainable, maintainable, and valuable in real business workflows.
