The Opportunity

The regulatory landscape for shipping is evolving rapidly. Governments and regulators across the globe are introducing new measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, while industrial policy and energy security concerns are shaping the next generation of fuels and technologies. Decisions being made today through initiatives such as the IMO Net-Zero Framework, FuelEU Maritime, and the EU ETS will play a critical role in determining how the maritime energy transition unfolds.

To support the development of effective and evidence-based policies, we are looking for an Analyst to join our Economics and Transition Finance team within the Regulation and Policy Hub. In this role, you will help build the analytical foundation that supports policy proposals and assessments for governments, industry stakeholders, and civil society organizations.

As the team's dedicated analytical resource, you will work directly with Navigate, the Center's integrated assessment model, as well as other analytical tools and datasets to evaluate policy impacts and market developments. You will combine modelling, data analysis, and policy research to generate robust evidence and actionable insights that contribute to international maritime decarbonization efforts.

This is a unique opportunity to influence some of the most important policy discussions shaping the future of global shipping.

The position is a full-time, permanent role based in Copenhagen, Denmark. As the role requires on-site presence, hybrid working is not available, and residence in or near Copenhagen is therefore a requirement. Occasional travel should be expected.

What You'll Do

• Model the impact of regulatory designs, assessing different policy mechanisms, scenarios, and fuel cost assumptions while ensuring transparency and reproducibility of results.
• Analyse and interpret large datasets, including EU MRV, IMO DCS, fuel market data, and shipping market data.
• Conduct research across academic literature, regulatory submissions, and industry publications to support policy development and recommendations.
• Develop analytical briefs, position papers, IMO submissions, presentations, and contributions to the Center's publications.
• Investigate related policy frameworks and real-world case studies, extracting lessons relevant to maritime decarbonization.
• Present findings and recommendations to internal leadership, governments, partner organizations, and industry stakeholders.
• Support policy projects from initial scoping and research through analysis, writing, and stakeholder reporting.
• Lead and coordinate analytical deliverables involving multiple contributors, tight timelines, and close collaboration across teams, including Communications and Engagement.

Who You Are

You are an analytically minded professional who enjoys turning complex questions into evidence-based insights. You combine technical capabilities with strong communication skills and are motivated by contributing to the transition towards a zero-carbon maritime sector.

Ideally, you recognize yourself in the following:

• You hold a degree in economics, public policy, engineering, data science, or a related discipline.
• You have 1-3 years of experience in techno-economic analysis, energy or transport economics, regulatory impact assessments, or similar quantitative policy work.
• You have proven experience building models and scenarios and can clearly explain underlying assumptions and methodologies.
• You are proficient in Python or R for data analysis and have advanced Excel capabilities.
• You are comfortable working with large and complex datasets and navigating real-world data challenges.
• You have strong written communication skills and can translate technical findings into concise, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
• You have experience creating clear and compelling data visualisations.
• You are fluent in English, which is the Center's working language.

It would be an advantage if you also have:

• Familiarity with maritime, energy, or climate policy.
• Experience with carbon pricing mechanisms, fuel standards, or emissions trading systems.
• Exposure to multilateral negotiations or international policy processes, such as the IMO or UNFCCC.
• Experience developing analytical tools or dashboards for non-technical users.
• Knowledge of applied statistics or econometric methods.
