The role involves operating ballast, mooring, and winch systems, assisting with marine logistics and deck operations, maintaining vessel records, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

Function Description

The Barge Operator is a key member of the marine crew supporting the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link Project, one of Europe’s largest offshore infrastructure developments. Working onboard the IVY immersion pontoons, the Barge Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation, positioning, and immersion of tunnel elements. The role involves operating and monitoring ballast systems, mooring equipment, and winch systems to ensure precise vessel positioning and controlled lowering of tunnel sections to the seabed. The Barge Operator also assists with anchor handling activities, monitors anchor loads and mooring configurations, and supports the Barge Master during critical marine operations.

In addition to operational duties, the Barge Operator coordinates supply vessel movements, supports marine logistics, and supervises deck activities, including maintenance, inspections, housekeeping, and cargo handling operations. The position plays an important role in maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with company procedures, risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations. Responsibilities also include maintaining vessel records, assisting with procurement of deck-related supplies and equipment, managing the vessel's medical chest, and providing basic first aid when required.

The ideal candidate has experience in offshore, marine construction, dredging, or heavy marine operations and is comfortable working in a dynamic international environment. Strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to safety are essential. The Barge Operator contributes directly to the successful execution of complex offshore construction activities by ensuring operational excellence, teamwork, and adherence to the highest safety standards.

  • Previous experience in offshore, marine construction, dredging, heavy lift, or maritime operations
  • Experience operating ballast systems, mooring systems, winches, or similar marine equipment
  • Familiarity with anchor handling and vessel positioning activities
  • Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates
  • Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate
  • First Aid certification or equivalent
  • Good understanding of marine safety procedures and Permit to Work (PTW) systems
  • Experience supervising deck operations, maintenance, and housekeeping activities
  • Ability to read and follow operational procedures and ballast plans
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work offshore on a rotational schedule
  • EU work authorization is mandatory
  • Safety-focused mindset with a proactive and responsible approach to work.
