Machine Learning Engineer – Cost Index Optimization
Jeppesen ForeFlight
Jeppesen ForeFlight builds software that airlines and pilots around the world rely on every day. From our Odense office, you'll join an international engineering organization where your work has a direct, measurable impact on airline fuel efficiency and emissions.
Train models that save fuel on every flight
We're hiring a Machine Learning Engineer for a new team building our next-generation Cost Index Optimization (CIO) product. You'll design and train the neural network models that produce tail-specific performance profiles from recorded flight data, and build the training and validation pipeline that keeps them accurate as fleets and data grow.
What You'll Do
- Design neural network architectures for tail-specific performance modeling
- Build the training pipeline — data preparation, feature engineering, hyperparameter optimization, retraining
- Define and automate validation against real-world flight data and accuracy targets
- Work with aircraft performance specialists to blend physics-based and learned models, keeping outputs physics-bounded
- Package trained models into compact, fast artifacts that run offline on EFB devices in the flight deck
- Take models to production, with monitoring for drift and data quality
- Strong applied ML experience — you've trained, validated, and shipped models to production, not just prototyped them
- Solid Python and ML tooling (PyTorch/TensorFlow, experiment tracking, model serving)
- Experience with time-series or sensor data, and comfort with noisy real-world datasets
- Enough physics intuition to sanity-check model outputs against how aircraft actually behave
- Interest in aviation is a plus; domain expertise is not required
