Data Engineer – Cost Index Optimization
Jeppesen ForeFlight
Jeppesen ForeFlight builds software that airlines and pilots around the world rely on every day. From our Odense office, you'll join an international engineering organization where your work has a direct, measurable impact on airline fuel efficiency and emissions.
Own the data platform behind a new flight optimization engine
We're hiring a Data Engineer for a new team building our next-generation Cost Index Optimization (CIO) product. Decoded flight recorder (QAR) data arrives from upstream providers — everything after that is yours: the lakehouse, data quality, per-tail training datasets, and the savings reporting our airline customers see.
What You'll Do
- Build the data lakehouse (Iceberg/S3, Bronze/Silver/Gold layers) for flight data at fleet scale
- Own data quality at the ingestion boundary — automated validation of inbound QAR data, including duplicate detection, date/route checks, and cross-checks against independent sources like ADS-B
- Build per-tail training and validation datasets and the feature engineering layer for the modeling team
- Build the savings reporting framework that quantifies fuel and cost savings per customer fleet
- Support large-scale reprocessing as models, parsers, and quality rules evolve
- Strong data engineering experience with Python, SQL, and a modern lakehouse or warehouse stack (Iceberg, Delta, or similar) in production
- Experience running pipelines on AWS (S3, batch processing/orchestration, infrastructure as code)
- A data-quality mindset — you treat validation as a product feature, not an afterthought
- Comfort working with large volumes of noisy sensor or time-series data
- Interest in aviation is a plus; domain expertise is not required
