As we continue to grow our presence in Europe, we're looking for an experienced engineering leader to help build and scale our Denmark-based engineering organization.
About The Role
We're looking for a Director, Software Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams out of our Denmark location. You'll set technical direction and organizational strategy for a significant part of our engineering organization, partnering closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders across Europe and the US. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the people, delivery, and technical health of the teams under your remit, as well as for growing Jeppesen ForeFlight's engineering presence in Denmark.
What You'll Do
- Own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery for multiple engineering teams, ensuring alignment with company and product priorities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a group of engineering managers and senior engineers, building a strong bench of technical and people leadership.
- Partner with senior product, design, and business stakeholders to shape long-term technical and organizational strategy.
- Drive key architectural and technology decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and secure as the company grows.
- Build and scale the Denmark engineering organization, including hiring, onboarding, and establishing local engineering culture and practices.
- Establish and uphold engineering standards across teams, covering code quality, testing, operational excellence, and delivery predictability.
- Manage budgets, headcount planning, and resourcing across your organization.
- Identify and mitigate organizational and technical risks, including cross-team dependencies and delivery bottlenecks.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional leadership discussions and contribute to company-wide technical strategy.
- Foster an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture that attracts and retains strong talent in the Denmark market.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering leadership roles managing managers or large teams.
- A track record of building and scaling engineering teams and organizations, ideally including experience opening or growing a new location or site.
- Strong technical background with the ability to engage credibly on architecture, system design, and technology strategy.
- Demonstrated success partnering with senior product and business leaders to align engineering execution with company strategy.
- Experience managing budgets, headcount, and resourcing decisions for a multi-team organization.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- A history of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineering managers and senior engineers.
- Sound judgment in balancing technical excellence, delivery timelines, and organizational health.
- Based in Denmark or willing to work from our Denmark location, with authorization to work in the EU.
- Experience leading engineering organizations in aviation, geospatial, or other safety-critical, data-intensive domains.
- Experience leading distributed teams and organizations spanning Europe and the US.
- A background in front-end, backend, or full-stack engineering prior to moving into senior leadership.
- Experience standing up or scaling a new international engineering hub.
- Interest in aviation or flight operations.
