Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our tech team in Aarhus. You will become a key part of shaping Whiteaway Group’s technical ecosystem, driving the performance, reliability, and scalability of our core end-to-end e-commerce platform. 

You will join one of our autonomous, domain-driven, cross-functional agile squads. This means you will have the opportunity to truly own, dive deep into, and drive a specific business and technical domain represented by your squad’s business and technical ownership. 

Our Tech Development department consists of 40 colleagues, including 20 engineers distributed across 6 autonomous squads. You will work in close partnership with frontend engineers and product managers.

The team is deeply passionate about building the right solutions, focusing on what is best for the business while investing in our craft through professional sparring, pair programming, and continuous learning.   

Key responsibilities 

• Drive backend deliverables: Take ownership of the backend architecture and deliverables within your squad, driving technical execution and collaborating closely with fellow developers.  
• Architectural leadership: Participate in system architecture and design discussions using Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven patterns, working in close partnership with our software architects and tech leads to help guide technical decisions. 
• Execute & deliver: Actively participate in the preparation, planning, and execution of ongoing projects, strategic initiatives, and general backlog items.  
• Deploy daily: Deploy daily using a modern CI/CD pipeline, leveraging AWS for backend infrastructure and services.  
• Engineering excellence: Ensure that performance, security, and observability are treated as first-class citizens in every solution you deliver.  

Technical profile & expectations 

• Backend expertise: Proven experience navigating, maintaining, and scaling robust microservices within a complex, pre-existing architecture using TypeScript and Node.js.  
• Cloud architecture: Strong hands-on experience running solutions in a cloud-native AWS environment.  
• Patterns & practices: Understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven patterns.  
• Cross-functional collaboration: Ability to work closely with product management, fellow developers, and platform engineers, while aligning effectively with software architects and key stakeholders outside your immediate squad to ensure the delivery of highly reliable and maintainable systems.

• CI/CD & testing: Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines and a mindset focused on automated testing and deployment infrastructure.
