Project Engineer (JB, Malaysia)

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Project Engineer/Project Transport Engineer to join our Technical Engineering department. This role is based in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and will support our global operation in complex project logistics, heavy transport, marine operations and offshore related projects across the region and globally.
Your Role
- Develop technically sound and customer-oriented solutions for logistics projects and bids.
- Understand and analyse logistics project requirements to determine optimal execution strategies.
- Develop, maintain, and implement technical standards to mitigate risk exposure and improve operational excellence.
- Perform transport-related calculations, including cargo securing calculations, deck strength checks, rigging calculations and mooring analysis.
- Design lifting plans and other installation drawings in 2D/3D.
- Prepare transportation drawings and plans, including land transport plans, stowage plans, seafastening plans, swept path analysis, and related layouts.
- Conduct route surveys and cargo inspections to verify project feasibility and operational requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation such as method statements, loading/discharge reports, route survey reports, towing manuals and cargo inspection reports.
- Design and prepare detailed engineering drawings for grillage and lifting devices.
- Provide technical support during project execution through remote assistance and onsite supervision, including pre-shipment inspections and operational monitoring where required.
- Participate in technical clarification meetings with clients and project stakeholders remotely and at client premises when required.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams across multiple regions to ensure successful project delivery.
- Represent the technical engineering department during operations and liaise with MWS and relevant stakeholders on technical matters.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance engineering processes, safety standards and operational efficiency.
- Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or any related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in shipyard engineering, heavy lift, project logistics, transport engineering, or a similar technical environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, including cargo securing, lifting operations, and structural analysis.
- Experience in performing technical calculations and preparing lifting plans, transport drawings, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g. AutoCAD; 3D modelling tools is an advantage).
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail.
- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Able to work independently and effectively collaborating with international teams.
- Willing to travel for site surveys, inspections, client meetings and project execution when required.
