Software Engineer - Unreal Engine Plugins

We are searching for an ambitious engineer to contribute to Unreal Engine tools and gameplay features through to production, breaking work into logical iterative steps and monitoring their success. Work with the Creator Tools team and other internal LEGO GAME teams to build and improve tools for UEFN and Unreal Engine developers, aligned with the overall service architecture.

Working in this team will mean getting to solve interesting and unique problems and enabling game developers to create high-quality LEGO experiences.

Core Responsibilities

Fostering Creativity: Bring a playful approach to tools development, helping creators design the games of their dreams.

Supporting the Delivery Pipeline: Contribute improvements to our delivery pipeline across Gaming Technologies into the UEFN and Unreal Engine environments.

Providing Technical Support: Help address issues across multiple clients — such as optimizing the rendering of LEGO bricks in Unreal — using a systematic approach to debugging and reaching out to senior engineers when needed.

Continuous Improvement: Consider multiple solutions when tackling problems, do refactoring work to improve the health of applications owned by the team, and propose new technologies or tools worth exploring.

Code Reviews & Documentation: Regularly contribute to code reviews, give and seek feedback, and help keep engineering documentation up to date.

The Gaming Technology department builds and maintains tools, pipelines, and plugins that power the LEGO Groups digital gaming experiences. Our team works closely with some of the most advanced game engines and backend services to enable developers to create immersive, playful, and scalable products for LEGO fans around the world.

In this role, you'll contribute to the future of LEGO games by developing and improving tools for our Fortnite Island developers and supporting a variety of internal and external clients – and hopefully add solid Unreal Engine and C++ skills to help us deliver gaming experiences that inspire creativity and play.

This position will be at LEGO Havremarken in Billund. The work environment is exciting, inspiring, and flexible - and we like to have fun along the way!

Do you have what it takes?

We are looking for candidates with a few years of solid C++ hands-on skills . Good working knowledge of UE5, including APIs, the reflection system, and building tools.

  • Hands-On Development: A proactive, tactical approach to delivering features and improvements.
  • Unreal Engine Experience: Good working knowledge of Unreal Engine and the Perforce pipeline.
  • User-Centered Mindset: A commitment to building user-focused tools and experiences.
  • Delivery Experience: Track record of contributing to and shipping tools or features in Unreal Engine.

Other nice-to-have skills would be:

  • Working knowledge of discrete math, algorithms, and/or linear algebra.
  • Exposure to platform development.
  • Familiarity with graphics programming and optimization techniques.
  • Experience contributing to AA+ or AAA games using Unreal.
  • A working understanding of networked game principles and their application in real-time creation.

Advanced English both written and verbally are needed since we are an international gathered team.
