Prototype play mechanics, behaviors, and small interactive systems across a variety of tools and environments to test and validate ideas.
-
Apply systems thinking to connect play ideas, mechanics, and technology into coherent, scalable experiences.
-
Explore procedural and computational approaches to play, finding new ways to create rich, dynamic interactions.
-
Partner closely with engineers, designers, and stakeholders, acting as a bridge between fields to move ideas from concept to reality.
-
Communicate design intent, trade-offs, and decisions proactively, keeping collaborating teams aligned and informed.
-

Play your part in our team succeeding
You will be part of the LEGO Interaction Design Team in Billund, Denmark, a team of 40+ designers and makers working on a variety of interactive and connected play experiences.
We collaborate across LEGO franchises, engineering, marketing, and digital development to create innovative interactive toys that bring new levels of engagement and storytelling to LEGO play. A hands-on, experimental attitude is essential, as we constantly push what’s possible in interactive toy design.
We are looking for a curious, systems-minded designer who loves turning complex play ideas into clear, playable experiences. You enjoy prototyping, documenting, and collaborating across fields, and you're energized by the challenge of making interactive systems feel simple, magical, and fun. Additionally, you’ve had experience with procedural audio technology.
Do you have what it takes?
-
A handful of years of experience designing interactive play, games, or toy experiences.
-
Strong systems thinking skills, with a proven ability to design interconnected play mechanics and behaviors.
-
A strong, iterative design process driven by user experience and playtesting.
-
Hands-on programming and prototyping skills, demonstrated through a portfolio of small behavior-driven prototypes built across a range of tools and environments (e.g. Unity, Unreal, web, microcontrollers, or node-based tools).
-
Some experience working with audio technology - including embedded hardware, sound synthesis, or other areas related to procedural audio and/or physical audio products
-
Experience with procedural or computational approaches to design (e.g. generative systems, rule-based behaviors).
-
Excellent written communication skills, with a track record of producing clear, high-quality design documentation.
-
A proactive, collaborative approach, comfortable bridging design, engineering, and interested party perspectives.
-
A passion for play, and for crafting experiences that delight kids and families.
Nice to have:
-
Experience designing for connected or physical-digital play.
-
Familiarity with game engines, node-based authoring tools, or live-authoring environments.
-
Experience mentoring designers or setting design standards across projects.
-
Experience developing proprietary procedural audio systems and/or installations
