Senior IT/OT Solution Architect - API Expansion

Novo Nordisk

Are you an experienced IT/OT architect with strong expertise in automation and complex system landscapes? Do you want to play a key role in shaping the architectural direction of some of Novo Nordisk’s most strategic manufacturing expansion projects? Join us as a Senior IT/OT Solution Architect and contribute to building the factories of the future.

Your new role

Novo Nordisk is undertaking significant expansion of its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing capacity. These projects are among the most complex and strategically important investments in the company.

As Senior IT/OT Solution Architect, you will play a pivotal role in driving the architectural direction across API expansion projects within Global Manufacturing & Supply. You will be responsible for defining and safeguarding target architecture, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with Novo Nordisk standards.

You will work closely with project managers, engineering partners, vendors, and global IT and automation stakeholders. The role operates with strong engagement from senior leadership and has high visibility across the organisation, reflecting the strategic importance of the API expansion projects. You will be expected to set architectural direction, challenge sub‑optimal solutions, and ensure alignment between project needs and Novo Nordisk standards.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Include

  • Driving and facilitating implementation of the IT/OT target architecture across API expansion projects
  • Acting as a senior architectural authority, setting direction and guiding solution design decisions
  • Ensuring alignment with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborating with vendors, engineering partners, and global IT to drive the automation and IT agenda
  • Providing architectural oversight and supporting issue resolution across multiple complex projects
  • Contribute to and approve documentation related to design, operation, and validation

You will work across a broad IT/OT landscape including enterprise systems, MES, automation platforms (DCS/PLC), historians, and integrated production technologies.

Your new department

You will join the API Expansion IT / Automation & Robotics area within Global Manufacturing & Supply. This department is responsible for delivering IT, automation, and robotics solutions for major API expansion projects.

The team operates in a highly dynamic and international environment, supporting both early-stage project definition and execution. You will collaborate closely with production sites, global IT, and engineering partners to ensure strong alignment and sustainable solutions across projects.

We design future API facilities as flexible, multi‑product facilities using the right level of technology, with a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. We are setting standards for the future and building facilities we will be proud of for decades to come.

Your Skills And Qualifications

We are looking for a proactive and ambitious professional who can contribute both technically and collaboratively across complex projects.

To Succeed In This Role, You Have

  • An MSc or equivalent degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years’ professional experience with different IT and Automation Solutions preferably including DCS (800xa, DeltaV or equivalent DCS systems), MES (PAS-X), Historian (PI), PLC (Tia Portal), and System Integrations.
  • Experience working in regulated environments, preferably within the pharmaceutical or process industry
  • Strong ability to drive architectural direction, align stakeholders, and ensure adoption across organisational boundaries
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts in a clear, structured, and understandable way to stakeholders at all levels.
