R&D Intern
Again
About Again
At Again, we are advancing a new industrial era. AI-powered biocatalysts. No oil. No sugar. By combining millennia-old bacteria with cutting-edge technology, we turn waste gases into the products that matter.
We have raised over $100m in funding from both top investors such as Google Ventures or HV Capital, and leading grant funding programmes such as European Union’s Horizon 2020. We are a growing team of experienced scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs from the DTU, Stanford, MIT (and more) who are passionate about revolutionizing the chemical industry.
We are leading the positive shift. Showing people that our world does have a future. If you think we're doomed – think Again.
What you'll do
We are looking for an intern/thesis student to operate and advance our pioreactor-based cultivation platform and support gas-fermentation and strain-development. The work will span adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE), strain characterization, and media optimization, ensuring our strains are evaluated and our platform capabilities continue to grow. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with experts in metabolic engineering, fermentation, and analytics while taking hands-on ownership of experimental workflows.
Responsibilities
-
Operate, maintain, and expand the pioreactor platform used for adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE), strain screening, and batch/continuous gas-fermentation experiments
-
Run and optimize gas-fermentation processes at laboratory scale, including media optimization and process parameter studies
-
Perform screening, characterization, and validation of engineered and evolved strains under diverse cultivation conditions
-
Support the design and execution of experiments using statistical/DOE-based approaches
-
Collect, organize, and clearly communicate experimental data through reports, presentations, and lab notebooks
-
Collaborate with strain engineering, fermentation, and analytics teams to ensure smooth hand-off of strains and data
-
Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for pioreactor operations and gas-fermentation workflows
Job Requirements
-
Currently enrolled in a university degree program or recently graduated (within the last year), available to work full-time for a minimum of six months and willing to be based in Copenhagen during that time
-
Undergraduate degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Biology, or a related field
-
Hands-on experience with microbial cultivation and/or fermentation
-
Practical experience operating and troubleshooting small-scale bioreactors (Pioreactors, Chi.bios or similar)
-
Familiarity with adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) or directed evolution workflows
-
Solid data analysis skills; comfort with spreadsheet-based and/or scripted data processing
-
Getting-things-done attitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
-
Clear and structured communication skills
What we promise you:
-
You get to work with a group of passionate scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs working on challenging and meaningful projects
-
This will be the journey of a lifetime – we are pioneering a new era of industrial manufacturing using biotech to make clean and resilient supply chains, and you can play a pivotal role in making that happen
-
We live by our company values: Relentless Grit, Unreasonably Ambitious, Unconventional Thinking and Critical Urgency
-
An engaging, empowering and ambitious work environment.
