HSE Manager

The HSE Manager will support the development, update and implementation of health, safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures. The role focuses on reducing accidental losses, protecting company assets, ensuring vendor, contractor and customer safety, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The HSE Manager will also maintain and support the current ISO 14001, 45001 and 50001 management system certifications, while acting as a resource and providing functional support to management, supervision and work personnel on matters relating to health, safety and environmental.

Responsibilities

  • Promote strong awareness and personal responsibility for HSE with all management and supervisory personnel.
  • Review company activities and ensure compliance with HSE policies, plans and procedures.
  • Ensure hazards and risks associated with work activities are identified, assessed and actions are implemented to eliminate or reduce them.
  • Compile, publish and communicate HSE statistics to management and personnel.
  • Ensure emergency preparedness and response plans are developed, documented, implemented and tested.
  • Implement and execute the HSE training plan for all facility personnel.
  • Ensure all personnel are trained to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Lead risk assessments and ensure results are addressed as work is executed.
  • Develop specific safety procedures to address identified risks and challenges.
  • Follow up on incident investigations to ensure close-out and corrective actions are completed to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure incident investigation results are shared across the workforce.
  • Promote HSE-related lessons learned and the exchange of HSE information across the workforce to achieve higher HSE awareness.
  • Conduct routine site assessment audits with the management team.
  • Review and analyze monthly HSE statistics and trends to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate Industrial Hygiene surveys with the Corporate HSE Team and work with facilities to close out findings.
  • Ensure permits and certifications are maintained and kept up to date, including internal and external databases.
  • Ensure waste is properly classified, handled and stored in accordance with federal, state, local and NOV requirements.
  • Complete required environmental data collection and registration.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures and department/area work instructions.
  • Contribute to general improvements in quality and key department/area activities.
  • Participate in training where required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Higher level of education in Safety or Science.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
  • Strong understanding of business needs and drivers, with experience building HSE strategies and policies aligned with business goals.
  • Experience defining, working within and improving HSE processes based on immediate and future business needs.
  • Experience setting clear goals, assigning responsibilities and supporting colleagues by removing roadblocks.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with comfort working through ambiguity, change, risk and uncertainty.
  • Proven experience identifying the skills required by the business and hiring effectively.
  • Strong ownership in challenging situations, with experience managing disputes and conflict through cooperation.
  • Dependable and results-focused, with the same expectations of others.
  • Strong people skills, with experience motivating direct reports, team members and project members.
  • Firm and diplomatic negotiation style.

Desired Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and their hazards.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001
  • Danish language skills.
