Specialist, Perception Evaluation Engineer
Bang & Olufsen
If you enjoy working at the frontier of audio, experimentation, and applied research in a role where deep specialist expertise is both valued and visible, this role is for you!
As Specialist, Perception Evaluation Engineer, you will join Bang & Olufsen’s growing Technology Evaluation team based in Lyngby or Struer, Denmark. You will have a central role in designing, executing and interpreting sensory evaluation methodologies across our technology and product portfolio while making sure that what we build doesn’t only measure correctly, but truly sounds exceptional to the listener.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and continuously refine sensory evaluation methodologies across Bang & Olufsen's technology and product portfolios
- Architect experiment designs that match the maturity, uncertainty, and timeline of each project, from exploratory research through validation and decision support
- Consolidate objective measurements, expert critical listening, and assessor-based methodologies to evaluate and validate the holistic performance of our technologies, concepts, and products
- Own end‑to‑end execution of perceptual evaluation studies, including experiment implementation, data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Translate complex perceptual findings into clear, actionable recommendations for technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Support the development, recruitment, and maintenance of assessor panels, including contributing to listener training activities
- Extend and adapt audio sensory evaluation approaches into adjacent perceptual domains such as vision and touch, where relevant
You are a skilled engineer or scientist who thrives at the intersection of perception, technology, and applied research. You bring a strong academic foundation, substantial hands-on experience, and the curiosity to challenge assumptions through well-designed experiments. Just as importantly, you know how to turn specialist knowledge into practical guidance that helps multidisciplinary teams make better decisions.
Moreover, you bring:
- An advanced degree in psychoacoustics, sensory science, acoustics, experimental psychology, engineering, or a related field; a PhD is highly relevant for this role
- Experience applying sensory evaluation for audio products and technologies in an industrial context
- Deep understanding of audio perception, sound quality evaluation, and the translation of perceptual insights into engineering decisions
- Coding skills in Max(MSP), R, JavaScript, React, and/or MATLAB
- Demonstrated abilities in experimental design, statistical analysis, and perceptual data interpretation
- An approachable personality with strong interpersonal skills - comfortable working with both assessor panels and executive stakeholders
- Experience in non-audio sensory evaluation, such as vision or touch, is valuable but not essential
- Fluency in professional English, Danish is a plus but not mandatory
You will join Bang & Olufsen's growing Technology Roadmap and Evaluation team, working at the forefront of how we measure and validate perceptual performance across technology and product development. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in acoustics, DSP, software, and product management, contributing to decisions that shape the sound and experience of our products. The team is based across our headquarters in Struer and our office in Lyngby, and you will be expected to travel between the two locations monthly depending on your primary location.
