About our Team

The DevOps role is crucial in the Technology, Infrastructure, and Operations team. It contributes to a Centre of Excellence for shared infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate should have a thorough grasp of cloud technologies, DevOps, and infrastructure automation. They should also possess basic knowledge of modern scripting and object-oriented programming languages. This position is pivotal in delivering infrastructure operations across the estate.

About the Role

We are expanding our team, seeking a talented and self-motivated DevOps Systems Engineer with current skills in advanced DevOps disciplines including automation, CI/CD, and cloud hosting. You will be joining our team to help building and improving our current and future hosting capabilities for Elsevier's research information management system Pure.

Responsibilities

• Configuring, deploying, and monitoring applications in AWS and Aliyun. It also involves supporting hosting and ensuring Infrastructure as Code best practices are used, with a focus on soft infrastructure assets.
• Ensuring optimal construction and implementation of CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with all relevant local and central parties, the deployment and monitoring strategy for all services we run.
• Planning and execution of large-scale deployments.
• Developing and improving monitoring and infrastructure automation.
• Working as part of an agile team, and in close collaboration with Quality, Release and Product teams delivering continuous improvements.
• Working with the Support and Development teams to troubleshoot, diagnose and rectify issues with hosting Pure through the applied integration of infrastructure, software, and software delivery best practices.

Requirements

• DevOps experience in large, multi-product environments, with large scale production cloud hosting. DevOps experience in large, multi-product environments, with large scale production cloud hosting.
• Experience of authoring CI/CD pipelines, automation elements related to infrastructure composition, deployment orchestration, and monitoring.
• Experience using modern scripting and OO programming languages as a contributing member within an agile dev squad.
• Experience with deploying, configuring, monitoring and supporting Linux systems.
• Understand longer-term impacts of architectural/deployment/automation choices.
• Positive attitude to cross-functional teams across the stack (back-end/front-end and DevOps).
• Positive and constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and good execution
• Experience with some of the following technologies/tools: Ansible, Terraform, Tomcat, Apache HTTP, Kubernetes/EKS, Elasticsearch, Logstash, GitHub, New Relic, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Bash, PHP, Symfony, Docker, Python, Jenkins.
