We’re looking for a VP of Data & AI to join Pleo and lead our existing and ongoing efforts in the area to new heights.

About The Team

You will lead an enthusiastic and talented team of around 45 people, including data engineers, analytics engineers, data analysts and data scientists. Pleo operates in a cross-functional matrix model. Our Data Platform team will report to you directly from an executional & competence standpoint, whereas the various data folks who work decentralized dotted around the business will have you as their competence (aka functional) leader. You will work closely with the leadership teams of our domains to ensure the right seniority and profiles are brought into the domains to solve the ambitions across the business.

This role reports directly to the CTO (Meri) from a functional perspective (which we call competence), and to the Domain Leader of Platform (Stefan) from an executional perspective.

About The Role

  • You will set the Data and AI Strategy for Pleo supported by the CTO, and partnering with Domain and Competence Leads across the company
  • You’ll be accountable and responsible for our operational data platform, leading the ~20 people that look after Data Privacy, Data Infrastructure, Analytics Enablement and AI Enablement
  • You’ll also be the leader of the Data & Analytics Competence – the functional home of all the data folks in the company (~40+ people)
  • You’ll take us from a position of largely using data purely for analytics, to a place where we can routinely build data-driven features into our internal and external products (including much-needed investments in MLOps)
  • You’ll also lead us through a maturation journey, as we head towards a potential IPO, across a number of fronts, from data privacy to data ownership, data quality to general data literacy
  • You will nurture and mature our diverse, equitable, inclusive culture that helps all members feel like they belong

About You

  • You enjoy helping people to achieve their potential (as a people manager)
  • You are comfortable translating between business needs and technical requirements, and excel at stakeholder management and partnering across the company
  • You know what great looks like for a mid-sized company with big ambitions but some constraints in terms of staffing & costs and are able to translate that into vision & strategy
  • You’re adept at balancing trade-offs when building a fit-for-purpose data platform
  • You have experience successfully integrating ML or data-driven solutions into products
  • You have successfully worked in a cross-functional setup
  • You are comfortable in fast-paced environments and enjoy complex problem-solving with peers and team
  • In an ideal world, you have some experience of preparing a company for IPO and/or experience of the expectations of a public company
