We are looking for a strategic leader to head our Software Development Department and drive digital innovation across ABENA. This is your chance to shape the future of software and digitalization in a global organization where technology plays a key role in long-term growth.


As Senior Manager of Application Development, your mission is to align and prioritize initiatives that support ABENA’s strategic goals and business needs. Our organization is currently on a crucial journey and digitalization has played and will continue to play an increasingly important role in the years to come.


Your department is responsible for delivering a wide range of bespoke business applications through a combination of internal specialists and long-term partnerships with external development suppliers. Our bespoke applications span from small mobile apps to large administrative platforms as industry solutions. Typically, we offer our solutions as a compliment to a client’s existing engagement with ABENA. Examples of such solutions are reimbursement management, prescription management and nursing home administration for select European countries.


With three internal roles and around 25 dedicated external developers from multiple EU-based partners, this is an opportunity to modernize and strengthen our development capabilities—while driving secure, high-quality solutions that support our business goals.


Your key responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the vision for software development across the organization.
  • Optimize development processes, tools, and technology stacks (.NET, Java, PHP, RPA and more) to support secure, efficient, and scalable delivery.
  • Champion modern architecture and secure development practices aligned with ISO 27001 and OWASP standards.
  • Promote agile methodologies and ensure consistency across internal teams and external partners.
  • Lead and develop a small, possibly growing, internal team while managing a large network of external developers across Europe.
  • Guide architectural decisions to ensure robust, maintainable solutions that meet business needs—from mobile tools to enterprise platforms.
  • Own supplier relationships and performance, ensuring alignment with contracts, service levels, and long-term goals.


Success in this role means leading by example—building and empowering a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, and delivering secure, high-quality software. You’ll help shape a modern, scalable development organization that supports both current needs and future growth.


What we hope you bring

  • Experience designing and developing administrative or large-scale web-based applications.
  • A proven track record in a senior software leadership role (e.g., Software Development Manager, Engineering Manager), ideally in a hybrid delivery model.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A solid background in software architecture and secure development—ideally with hands-on experience earlier in your career.
  • Deep understanding of modern development practices, agile methodologies, and vendor governance.
  • Familiarity with technologies like CI/CD, Azure, .NET, Java, PHP, Flutter, and automation platforms such as UIPath.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, OWASP).
  • Fluency in English; Danish is a plus.
