The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia invites applications for funded PhD positions focused on advancing the performance and scalability of electrochemical flow systems for clean energy applications. Successful candidates will join the Amini Lab, which is dedicated to developing next-generation aqueous redox flow batteries (RFBs) through research in electrochemical analysis, battery architecture, advanced electrolyte development, and in situ diagnostic tools.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline (exceptionally qualified candidates with a bachelor’s degree may be considered for direct PhD entry)
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering
  • Willingness and ability to undertake frequent international travel
  • Preference for candidates with Canadian or U.S. citizenship, or citizenship from countries with established visa waiver agreements with Canada and its major research partners
