Deadline: Not specified
The Department of Geosciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position focused on the study of clumped isotope compositions of methyl groups. The successful candidate will join the Lloyd Lab and participate in a NASA Exobiology-funded collaborative project investigating isotopic fingerprints of biologic one-carbon reactions. The primary aim is to evaluate the potential of clumped isotope composition of methyl groups as a biosignature transferable between compounds.
The Postdoctoral Scholar Will Lead Efforts To Measure And Interpret Isotope Effects Associated With Biological Methyl Synthesis And Transfer In Both Autotrophic And Heterotrophic Organisms. The Research Will Address
– Whether the clumped isotopic composition of methyl groups synthesized by living organisms systematically differs from those produced by abiotic processes.
– Whether biological methyl shuffling imparts a distinct isotopic signature, regardless of the source.
Requirements
– PhD in stable isotope geochemistry, organic geochemistry, microbial biogeochemistry, or a related discipline by the appointment start date.
– Demonstrated effective writing skills, as evidenced by high-quality reports and publications.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter detailing their interest and career goals, a curriculum vitae including a publication list, and the names and contact information for up to three references. For further information, candidates may contact Dr. Max Lloyd at [email protected].
