The Institute for Medical Virology at University Hospital Tübingen is seeking applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD position focused on virology and antiviral drug development, with a particular emphasis on strategies against Dengue Virus (DENV).
The successful candidate will participate in the “1for4” project, which aims to develop broadly neutralizing nanobodies against all four DENV serotypes. These nanobodies are characterized by their high stability, safety, and lack of antibody-dependent enhancement. The project aspires to advance promising candidates into preclinical and clinical stages of antiviral development.
An additional project stream involves the development of anti-flaviviral compounds targeting the capsid protein of DENV, including conducting structure-activity relationship (SAR) experiments for lead optimization.
Requirements
– Strong motivation for translational research at the doctoral level
– Experience in molecular biology, cellular biology, and virology
– Familiarity with BSL3 pathogens or flaviviruses is advantageous
– Ability to work independently and develop innovative experimental approaches
Funding And Duration
– Fully funded for 36 months (TV-L E13 salary scale)
– Position available immediately
