At Ambu, we’re developing next-generation single-use endoscopes, and we’re looking for skilled mechanical engineers to help design the small, precise systems that make these devices work.

We've two positions open; one senior (+5 years of experience) and one specialist (aroung 3 years of experience). This position can be based in either Ballerup, Denmark or Augsburg, Germany.

In this role, you’ll take a leading part in developing the miniature mechanical assemblies at the heart of our endoscope platforms. It’s a chance to solve real-world engineering challenges—working with ultra-compact designs, new technologies and materials, smart material choices, and high-volume manufacturing to deliver reliable products used in clinical care around the world.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Camera Engineering Team, you will own the mechanical design of Ambu’s next-generation camera modules and assemblies - from early exploration to full-scale production. Your work will directly impact the performance of our products in critical care settings.

You Can Expect To

  • Lead mechanical development from proof of concept to validated designs, ensuring robust, compact, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Design miniaturized mechanical systems that integrate tightly with optics, electronics, and high-precision molded plastic parts with complex geometries.
  • Select materials and processes based on functional requirements, tolerances, mechanical stress, and compatibility with injection molding, 3D printing, or automated assembly.
  • Solve complex engineering problems related to thermal management, alignment of optical and imaging elements, sealing against moisture ingress, and the mechanical packaging of delicate electronics.
  • Translate clinical and usability needs into clear, feasible mechanical specifications by collaborating with physicians, designers, and R&D teams.
  • Create working prototypes for concept validation and manufacturability testing using methods such as 3D printing, machining, and early tool trials.
  • Optimize designs for scalable, high-yield manufacturing—including tolerance stack-up, DFMA, and robust design principles.
  • Collaborate across functions and locations—including development teams in Denmark, Germany, and Malaysia, as well as global suppliers and technology partners.

Qualifications

We believe the best candidates blend creative engineering, hands-on experience, and the ability to see products through from idea to production.

You are likely to thrive in this role if you have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience in mechanical design ideally for compact or precision-engineered systems.
  • A hands-on approach to prototyping, testing, and iterating designs. Experience with a range of 3D printing technologies is a plus.
  • Experience designing plastic parts and compact assemblies for high-volume manufacturing using processes such as injection molding or overmolding.
  • A good understanding of how material properties (e.g. processability, chemical resistance, thermal behavior) impact product function and process choices.
  • Familiarity with integrating miniature electronic components or camera modules into complex mechanical encapsulations.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (e.g. Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, or Catia).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical disciplines.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
