Are you ready to shape and drive the EHS agenda in a high-impact, strategic role at Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI)? We are looking for a new Senior EHS Specialist to ensure best-in-class Environment, Health, and Safety standards in our global production. As an independent company within the Arla Foods Group, we live for innovation to maintain the position as the global leader in value-added milk-based ingredients. This position is located in Aarhus, Denmark, and will require some travel to our sites globally.
How You Will Make An Impact
As Senior EHS Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in steering our EHS strategy, business plan, and continuous improvement projects. You will ensure AFI’s compliance with all relevant EHS legislation, drive risk management, and support the organization in building robust and sustainable EHS practices. Your expertise and leadership will be key to developing technical competencies and embedding a proactive, decisive safety culture at our sites.

How You Will Make An Impact
As Senior EHS Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in steering our EHS strategy, business plan, and continuous improvement projects. You will ensure AFI’s compliance with all relevant EHS legislation, drive risk management, and support the organization in building robust and sustainable EHS practices. Your expertise and leadership will be key to developing technical competencies and embedding a proactive, decisive safety culture at our sites.
You will be responsible for
- Leading and developing the EHS strategy and business plan for AFI, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
- Acting as subject matter expert for technical EHS areas, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Permit to Work, chemical management, and spray dryer fire & explosion safety (ATEX).
- Managing asset protection, handling insurance inspections, and leading risk management initiatives, including business continuity planning and 21RISK activities.
- Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of EHS management systems (ISO 14001 and others), and supporting the transition of Food Loss & Waste standards to Arla.
- Driving EHS performance reporting, including data for our annual sustainability report, and facilitating monthly EHS reporting and network activities.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards for biosecurity, SEDEX, and cornerstones, in collaboration with other EHS specialists.
- Taking a strategic approach to EHS, leveraging data to inform decision-making and drive measurable improvements.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and representing AFI in audits, inspections, and external forums.
How You Will Be Successful
To succeed in this role, you are a results-driven EHS professional with deep technical insight and the ability to navigate complex challenges. You are proactive, decisive, and have a proven track record of successfully implementing EHS initiatives, especially with regards to Safety.
We imagine that you bring
- A degree within food science, technology, chemistry, or a similar field, supported by relevant EHS qualifications.
- 7+ years of experience working within EHS, preferably in the food, ingredients, or process industries.
- Demonstrated technical competencies in LOTO, Permit to Work, chemical management, ATEX and fire/explosion safety, asset protection, and risk management.
- Experience with EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001), business continuity planning, and sustainability reporting.
- Structured working methods, a strategic mindset, and strong business understanding.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships and collaborating across teams.
- A proactive, self-driven approach, with goal orientation, personal impact, and the ability to make decisive decisions.
- Solid data processing skills (Excel proficiency is an advantage), with the ability to leverage insights for continuous improvement.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken; Danish language skills are an advantage.
