Marine Biologist
COWI

Do you want to work with marine projects in Denmark? Can you assess the environmental impact on marine ecosystems? And are you a marine biologist? Then, apply for these exiting consultancy positions at COWI.
Join us in protecting our oceans: Advisory opportunities for two marine biologists
To help improve conditions for life in the ocean, we are looking for a senior and a junior marine biologist to join our team. We are a team of 15 skilled biologists, landscape planners and geographers working alongside our customers on some of Denmark's most significant projects in green transition and the green tripartite agreement. And at COWI we are proud to have contributed to marine mega projects like the Denmark-Germany Link and the artificial island, Lynette Holm, Copenhagen.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Prepare EIA on large infrastructure projects with marine components (miljøkonsekvensvurderinger).
- Assess general impacts according to the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), the Habitats Directive, Natura 2000 and the Marine Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD).
- Elaborate on qualitative elements in assessments and surveys such as macro-algae, benthic fauna, and work on typical coastal and marine habitats like estuaries, mudflats, eelgrass meadows or stone reefs.
- Participate in field surveys, digital mapping and GIS verification and other practical work.
- Contribute to COWI's advisory services, tools and procedures development.
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future
To thrive in this position, being motivated to work alongside your colleagues, partners, and clients is essential. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your way but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.
On top of that, you will have:
- A master's degree in biology or similar with a focus on marine biology and solid knowledge of marine ecology.
- Experience with the Water Framework Directive (WFD), Habitats Directive, Marine Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD) and environmental assessments of various blue economy activities.
- Experience with Danish government authorities, permitting and applications.
- Experience in developing and improving methods within nature management and monitoring.
- Some years of experience with similar types of tasks.
- Proficient in Danish – both written and spoken.
You will become part of a specialized and versatile team within nature and environmental assessment – our team includes many different professional backgrounds – e.g. biologists, geographers and planners. In addition, we work closely with a team of experienced environmental lawyers, so you can always get advice on the latest developments in environmental legislation and directives.
