At 3Shape we work to improve treatment and diagnostics for dental patients. We do this by developing innovative scanners and advanced software for the global community of dental professionals. While our main business evolves around our intraoral scanners, the ecosystem contains a wide range of software solutions that enable the digital model of the patient’s teeth to be used for treatments in collaboration with dental labs and for diagnostics and patient communication in the dental clinic.


That's where 3Shape stands out from the competition: we turn advanced technology into simple products that customers love and use. The product portfolio has offerings in four areas: dental clinics, dental labs, company management, and consumers (patients), which are distributed into six workstreams, each with one or more UX designers allocated. The UX designers are supported by a central design system lead by the Head of User Experience.


For our Product department, we are looking for a Head of User Experience who will:

  • Own and drive the user experience across our software product portfolio, delivering excellent products with an outstanding user experience.
  • Lead and develop a small team currently consisting of a design system lead, while supporting the 12 UX designers that sit in six different workstreams (reporting into the individual workstreams).
  • Be a skilled design thinking advocate and help develop and ensure best-practices for user experience and digital product design across the organization.
  • Continue the cultural and organizational transformation that 3Shape started seven years ago, working with maturing UX through increasing awareness, embedding UX into our processes, and evolving UX operations.
  • Set the strategic direction for the product user experience and ensure coherency across the user journey on visual appearance, interaction patterns, information architecture, etc.


You will report to the Senior Vice President of Product, residing in the Product Creation department, headed by our Chief Technology Officer. You will work side-by-side with our industrial design lead, a team of Product Directors, and a Strategy Manager. The journey of digital dentistry has just begun, and it will increasingly enable dental professionals to explore dentistry in ways that are impossible in the analog world. With this transition comes a great responsibility of understanding our users and their context, ensuring holistic and user-friendly experiences, efficient workflows, and superior patient care. You will play a central role in orchestrating in a market-leading company that prides itself on having an innovative mindset.


As Head of User Experience, we expect you to:

  • Have very strong passion for user experience and creating outstanding products based on deep customer insights.
  • Drive UX designers in the same directions through vision, strategy, and design principles, as well as sparring and collaboration on working towards a holistic user experience across the portfolio.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to the distributed UX designers to support their professional growth and development.
  • Plan for how to further mature UX in the Product Creation department in close collaboration with the UX designers (awareness, processes, operations, tools, etc.).


Who are you?

  • You have several years of experience leading UX teams and a track record for successful UX implementation.
  • You have successfully tied UX strategy into product strategy in collaboration with product management and R&D stakeholders.
  • You have experience designing and delivering simple, best-in-class products that are broad and ambiguous in scope.
  • You are pragmatic yet ambitious with great skills in communication, storytelling, and collaboration.
  • You have proven success with leading an organization towards increased UX maturity and demonstrating the value of UX. It will be a great advantage if you have any of the following:

- You have experience working with design systems to enable internal efficiency and coherent, high-quality experiences.

- You have experience with complex productivity applications or medical software.
