Kontrakttype: Fuld tid

Are you a Software Developer skilled in C# or Python and looking for a high-impact role in Aalborg? Want to work on real-time systems, time series data, and tools used by energy traders? Ready to shape the data platform behind smarter, faster energy trading?

Join Norlys Energy Trading’s Data Management team and build the technology backbone of energy trading.

We’re Norlys Energy Trading – a fast-growing tech company at the heart of Europe’s energy markets. Our Aalborg-based Data Management team designs and owns the infrastructure that moves critical energy data from source to strategy. From high-performance APIs to large-scale time series storage, your work will have real, daily impact. We're lean, we trust our developers, and we focus on solving the right problems – not filling Jira boards.

The Role

Our team designs and builds the internal data platform used across Norlys Energy Trading for ingesting, storing, and analyzing high-volume energy data. This platform supports everything from real-time scraper pipelines to backtesting algorithms and trade support tools.

As a software engineer on the team, you’ll work on the systems that make this possible – fast, reliable services and databases that other developers, quants, and analysts depend on daily. We focus on maintainability, strong DevEx, and scaling our platform to meet growing demand. This role combines hands-on software development with a deep understanding of data, performance, and reliability.

We're expanding the team to continue investing in this foundation as the company's need for high-quality data grows.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain applications that collect, process, and store high-volume energy data
  • Design core databases used across the company — with a focus on performance, usability, and reliability
  • Work directly with traders, developers, and quants to deliver solutions that matter
  • Continuously improve the platform’s usability, performance, and observability
  • Troubleshoot data issues and keep things running smoothly
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies to ensure our data architecture scales with the business

“We care about solving real problems and making it easy to build and run good systems. If you're curious, take ownership, and like working with others who do the same, you'll feel at home here.”

Asbjørn Brandt, Hiring Manager

What We’re Looking For

  • Solid software engineering experience (we care more about your skills than your job title)
  • Experience with either C# or Python – or the willingness to ramp up fast
  • Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or ClickHouse); message brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka is a plus
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a desire to solve real, challenging problems
  • We currently use GitLab, Kubernetes, Azure SQL Hyperscale, ClickHouse, RabbitMQ, Grafana, and Prometheus.

You don’t need to tick every box – if you’re motivated and eager to learn, we’d love to hear from you.

What You Might Work On

  • TickerData Store: An API giving a unified view of public trades and orders. Reads from external queues, persists to Parquet, and serves via an API
  • TimeSeries API: Store and retrieve generic time series, with support for sampling and candlebar generation; C# API with ClickHouse storage
  • Large Scrapers: Maintain some of the company’s biggest data scrapers and build tools for users to diagnose issues themselves

How We Work

  • Small, highly skilled team owning the platform end-to-end
  • We value CI/CD, automated testing, and a culture of trust
  • Weekly 10-minute meeting to pick 1–2 key projects – no heavy planning rituals
  • No task-level estimation; you choose your tasks based on interest and priority
  • New hires help shape how we work from day one

Working at Norlys Energy Trading

  • We believe happy developers build better systems. That’s why we:
  • Invest in developer experience and automation
  • Attack tech debt before it attacks us
  • Share knowledge openly
  • Avoid bureaucracy and trust people to do great work

Over a third of our 270+ employees are software developers or quants, working in C# and Python. We’re mostly in-office, but flexible on work schedules and open to remote work when needed.

Our Hiring Process

  • Quick on-site interview: A short mutual fit check
  • Take-home task: Coding task in your language of choice + DiSC profile
  • Follow-up interview: Discuss your task, reflect on the DiSC, and explore deeper questions
  • Offer: If it feels right on both sides, we move fast
